Hatta Day Trip From Dubai: Buses, Activity Rules, Seasonal Status and a Realistic Itinerary

October 8, 2026

Hatta looks like an easy day out on a map. In practice, four things decide whether the day works: a bus that leaves Dubai only every two hours, a loop bus that moves you around Hatta, three activity operators that keep different hours, and age and weight rules that vary boat by boat.

The transport is simple once you see it. RTA’s H02 Hatta Express runs from Dubai Mall Bus Station to Hatta Bus Station “from 7 AM to 7 PM daily at a frequency of two hours”, for AED 25 a person each way. RTA’s H04 Hatta Hop-on Hop-off then loops past Wadi Hub, Hatta Hill Park, Hatta Dam and the Heritage Village every 30 minutes, for AED 2 a stop.

The season is less simple. Hatta’s official site carries a banner, “SEASON 9 OPENS 28 SEPTEMBER”. On Oct. 1, 2026, the same site still said “Hatta Outdoor is currently closed for the season”, naming one of its three Wadi Hub operators, and marked that operator’s activities closed. Call before you go.

Checked Oct. 1, 2026; the sources are listed at the end.

It can, if you plan around the bus and do two or three things rather than everything. By car, Google Maps put The Dubai Mall to Hatta Wadi Hub at 1 hour 30 minutes and 134 km in a single reading on Oct. 1, by a route with tolls. The official site calls Wadi Hub “just 90 minutes from Dubai”.

Hatta suits you ifHatta is harder if
You can leave Dubai early in the morningYou can only start after lunch
Two or three stops is enough for your groupYou want every activity in one day
Your children meet the activity rules belowYour youngest is under 2 and you want the water
You are happy to plan around a two-hourly bus, or you have a carYou need to be back in Dubai at a fixed evening time without a car
You go outside the summer, or accept a reduced summer listYou go in summer and want the full activity list

One timing fact shapes the whole day. Go Gravity, one of Wadi Hub’s operators, lists its activities from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. at weekends. Hatta Outdoor, when it is open, starts at 11 a.m. Monday to Thursday. A Monday-to-Thursday visitor who arrives mid-morning will find Hatta Kayak and the Heritage Village open, and much of Wadi Hub not yet.

If Hatta and Abu Dhabi are competing for the same free day, a day in Abu Dhabi from Dubai sets out the other option; it is planned around a car or a tour rather than a bus.

Gulf News reported in October 2024 that the Dubai stop is at “Dubai Mall’s main entrance, in the tourist bus parking lot area No.2”; confirm with RTA and be at the stop before the bus is due, because missing it costs two hours.

The sequence without a car: Dubai Mall Bus Station, H02 to Hatta Bus Station, H04 to the first stop, H04 between stops, H04 back to Hatta Bus Station, H02 to Dubai.

Check RTA’s journey planner on the day and keep one more H02 after the one you plan to take home. H02 H04 loop Car (alternative)

Three things to confirm with RTA before you go

Three things you would expect are not on the RTA pages we read:

  • A departure list. RTA gives the span and the two-hour gap, not the clock times, and does not say whether 7 p.m. is the last departure from Dubai, from Hatta or both.
  • A journey time. Visit Hatta’s visitor page says “In around 1.5 hours”, and news reports have put the bus at about 90 minutes to almost two hours. RTA gives no figure.
  • How to pay. News reports disagree on whether you need a nol card or can pay cash. RTA does not say.

So ask RTA or check its journey planner for the day’s H02 departures before you leave the hotel; Google Maps did not show H02 when we checked. Visit Hatta says “Riders can use their Nol Card to pay the AED 25 fare”, so give each rider a nol card with at least AED 25 for each H02 journey, plus the H04 fares. Getting nol cards sorted for the whole family on day one saves that problem here. Children under 5 ride free; RTA pages disagree on whether a 5-year-old rides free, so carry a card for one.

The return is the part to protect

With a bus every two hours, missing one costs two hours. Plan to be back at Hatta Bus Station for a departure that leaves at least one more H02 after it, so a late loop bus or a slow queue does not strand you. The H04 runs until 9 p.m. and every 30 minutes, so allow up to 30 minutes of waiting, plus the ride itself, before the H02 you are aiming for.

Another route: E16

RTA’s E16 also runs to Hatta. In a change announced on April 28, 2025 and effective May 2, the Dubai Media Office said it “now terminates at Union Bus Station instead of Al Sabkha Bus Station”. RTA publishes no E16 fare, frequency or journey time on the pages we read. Use it as a fallback, not a plan.

By car or taxi

Driving is the flexible option: 1 hour 30 minutes on Google’s fastest route, which Google flags as having tolls, one of the road and fee costs a rented car quietly adds. If you are thinking of renting, whether an Indian licence is enough to drive in Dubai is worth reading first. RTA lists a Hatta taxi “provided to residents of City of Hatta” that can also carry passengers “from Dubai and vice-versa”; RTA’s fare table, set out in RTA’s taxi starting fares, set against the Metro, lists a road-pickup starting fare of AED 5 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for Regular, Family and Hatta taxis, and gives no fare for the full trip.

Hatta’s official site was mid-switch between seasons on Oct. 1, 2026. This is what it showed.

The National reported on Sept. 21, 2026, that Hatta Resorts and Wadi Hub were “Reopening September 28” for their ninth season. Visit Hatta’s activity page did not confirm a reopening by Oct. 1. Call the operator before you set out.

For when the city’s other outdoor sites open and shut, Dubai’s outdoor attractions by season lists them in one place.

Wadi Hub is a cluster of activities run by several operators, not one ticket, and none of the pages we read publishes an entry fee for the hub itself. Its own FAQ sets three rules that apply across it:

  • Ages: “Most of the activities are open for ages 6+ however some of the more thrilling activities are restricted to ages 16+.”
  • Booking: “The activities can only be booked on-site at the Hatta Wadi Hub.”
  • Rain: “Activities will close temporarily due to rain for safety reasons and will reopen as soon as they are dry.”

The FAQ does not say which activities are 16+, and the activity pages give no age, height or weight for the Aerial Adventure Park, Drop In, archery, axe throwing, wall climbing or any Go Gravity activity. Ask at the booking point before you promise a 12-year-old the zipline.

The only Wadi Hub items with published ages and prices are the children’s ones, all marked closed for the season on Oct. 1:

ActivityAgePrice
Quad Bike ATV (Kids Only)4+AED 60 for 20 minutes
Mountain Splash Pool4+AED 30 for 10 minutes
Horse and Pony Rides4+AED 25 for 10 minutes
Bouncy Castle3+AED 50, unlimited

There is also a pool with sunbeds, “Poolside by the Drop In”, at “AED 25 per person”. Its status was unclear on Oct. 1, since the Drop In beside it was marked closed. Changing rooms are in the Wadi Hub washrooms, per the FAQ.

A child who misses an age line by a year can sink a plan; Hatta’s rules are by age, but how Dubai’s parks handle a child just under the height line shows the same problem at the city’s theme parks.

On the pages we read, Hatta Kayak publishes the only weight limits in Hatta, and the most detailed rules. The official Visit Hatta page lists them:

BoatWho can rideWeight limit
Single Kayak1 adult, “16 years and above”110 kg
Double Kayak2 adults and 1 child, “child must be 2–4 years old”110 kg per person
Single Water Bike1 adult, 16 and above75 kg
Double Water Bike2 adults75 kg per person
Yellow Boat3 adults and 1 child, child “below 10 years old”Not stated
Donut Boat4 adults and 2 children “under 10 years old”Not stated

Read the table against your own family. A child aged 5 to 9 fits a Yellow Boat or a Donut Boat, not a double kayak. A child aged 10 to 15 fits neither of those, nor a single kayak, nor a single water bike. Ask the operator about its tour boats, which appear on its 2018 boat list with no age line, and whether they still run. The operator words the single-boat rule “Above 16 years old”, against the official page’s “16 years and above”, so check if your teenager is exactly 16. And the operator’s own site says “Infants are not allowed on any ride”, which rules out the youngest children entirely.

Prices appear only on the operator’s site, hattakayak.com, whose only date is “Copyright © 2018”: single kayak or single water bike AED 60, double kayak or double water bike AED 120, Yellow Boat AED 150 for an hour, Donut Boat AED 300 for an hour. Treat them as a guide and confirm at the counter.

Other operator rules worth knowing:

  • “reservations are not needed” and tickets go “on a first come, first served basis”; groups over 50 must reserve
  • “Swimming is not allowed by Law” and “Climbing is not allowed around the Dam”
  • “Lockers are available and free at our location”

The Hatta Kayak page and the operator’s site publish no weather or wind policy and no life-jacket rule. Hours on the official page are “Daily 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM”, phone +971 56 616 2111.

Hatta Dam is where the kayaks are, and an H04 stop. No official page we read publishes an entry fee, opening hours or a description of the viewpoint, so plan your time there around the kayak hours.

Hatta Heritage Village is the low-effort stop. Dubai Municipality says “entry to the village is currently free of charge” and that it holds “about 30 different and unique buildings”. It gives hours of 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Visit Hatta says 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Either way it is open from early morning to evening, which makes it the easiest stop to move around the rest of the day. It is on the H04 loop.

Hatta Hill Park is one of the four H04 stops RTA names. No page we read describes it, so treat it as an optional stop.

Hatta does not close in summer. Parts of it do. Visit Hatta’s summer page, which carries no year, says “Hatta Wadi Hub remains open throughout the summer” and lists “four thrilling activities: Zipline, Drop In, Archery, and Bungee Trampoline”. The resorts take a “summer break”. The adventures page marked all four of those activities closed on Oct. 1, which suggests the summer page predates it.

The same page lists these hours:

  • Hatta Outdoor: “Open Wednesday to Sunday | 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Closed Monday and Tuesday)”
  • Hatta Kayak: 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday to Sunday
  • Hubbers mountain biking: “Daily | 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM”
  • Heritage Village: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily

Read those hours against the bus. Hatta Outdoor’s listed summer hours start at 4 p.m., and RTA’s H02 window ends at 7 p.m., so a family without a car can do the kayak and the village in the morning but will struggle to fit Wadi Hub’s evening activities in before a return bus. With a car, the evening opens up. Dubai’s month-by-month heat figures explain why the middle of the day belongs indoors from May to October, and if your dates are flexible, the months that suit an Indian family’s Dubai trip put Hatta’s full list back on the table.

The plans below rest on RTA’s published 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. window and two-hour frequency. RTA does not publish exact departures or a journey time, so the plan timings are approximate; the hours in the grid are as the operators printed them. Confirm the day’s departures before you set out.

Bus or car?

Take the bus if you have no licence or rental and want two or three stops. If Go Gravity matters, go at a weekend, when it opens at 9 a.m.

Drive if you want Go Gravity on a Monday-to-Friday afternoon or a late Wadi Hub session, are travelling with a toddler who naps on the move, or need a fixed time back in Dubai. Google put the drive at 1 hour 30 minutes, with tolls. If you rent, ask for a child seat for each child when you book; do not assume one comes with the car.

What the bus costs a family. For two adults and a 7-year-old, H02 is 3 x AED 25 x 2 journeys = AED 150. H04 adds AED 2 per rider per bus stop; RTA does not say whether a “stop” means each stop passed or each ride. Read as each ride, four rides for three people cost 3 x AED 2 x 4 = AED 24, bringing the family’s bus total to about AED 174. Children under 5 ride free; RTA pages disagree on whether a 5-year-old rides free, so carry a card for one, and RTA’s timetable page does not repeat the child rule for H02, so ask.

5Wadi Hub from 11 a.m.: Hatta Outdoor activities, if reopenedH04Go Gravity does not open until 3 p.m.
6Back to Hatta Bus Station by mid-afternoonH04Keep a spare H02

Said plainly: a bus traveller on a weekday gets the kayak, the village and Hatta Outdoor, if it has reopened. Go Gravity’s 3 p.m. start leaves little time before a return H02 with a spare behind it, and RTA does not say when the last H02 leaves Hatta, so plan Go Gravity for a weekend or a car.

Count back from the bus, not forward from breakfast. Pick the H02 you want to catch, with one more after it. Allow up to 30 minutes of waiting for the H04, plus the ride, before it. Whatever is left between arrival and that point is your Hatta time.

On a Friday, Hatta Outdoor opens at 10 a.m. but Go Gravity still waits until 3 p.m., so follow the Monday-to-Thursday plan with Wadi Hub an hour earlier.

This is a plan for the cooler months, roughly November to April. From May to October, keep the kayak in the morning and head back after lunch.

Which version suits whom

  • Adventure-focused: for teenagers and adults who meet the 16+ lines. Go at a weekend, take two activities rather than five and do the dam first only if you want the boats.
  • Balanced: the weekend plan above, for mixed ages.
  • Relaxed family: for under-6s. Dam and village in the morning, a long lunch at Wadi Hub, then an early H02. Once the season opens, only the kids’ ATV (ages 4 and up, from 9 a.m.) lists hours before an early-afternoon bus, and no hours are printed for the splash pool; pony rides start at 3 p.m. and the bouncy castle, the one ride for 3-year-olds, at 4 p.m. A child under 4 who wants a ride needs a later bus or a car.

Time at each stop

StopPlanning windowBasis
Hatta DamAbout 1 to 2 hoursOur estimate; the operator sells Yellow and Donut boats by the hour
Heritage VillageAbout 45 minutes to 1 hourOur estimate; no official visit time
Wadi HubAbout 2 to 3 hoursOur estimate; depends on queues and how many activities

None of the pages we read gives a recommended visit length for any of the three, so these are our planning figures, not official durations.

The checks to make before you leave are at the end of this page. Everything else can wait until you arrive: the Wadi Hub FAQ says activities “can only be booked on-site”, though Go Gravity also lists a booking phone number, and Hatta Kayak works on “first come, first served”.

  • Under 2: the double kayak starts at age 2, and the operator says “Infants are not allowed on any ride”. Plan a dam view, the village and lunch.
  • 2 to 4: a double kayak, which seats two adults and one child aged 2 to 4 (ask whether one adult can take a child), or a Yellow or Donut boat. The children’s rides at Wadi Hub start from age 3 or 4, when open.
  • 5 to 9: Yellow or Donut boat at the dam; most Wadi Hub activities from 6, per the FAQ.
  • 10 to 15: the hardest age at the dam, since no boat on the official list fits them. Most Wadi Hub activities, but not those restricted to 16+.
  • 16 and over: single kayaks, water bikes and the 16+ activities.

Build in waiting time: up to 30 minutes for each H04 and up to two hours if you miss an H02. The Visit Hatta pages we read say nothing on shade, prayer rooms, first aid or pram access at Wadi Hub; on facilities, the FAQ mentions changing rooms in the washrooms and food trucks. If any leg of the day is by cab, read up on the child-restraint law on a long cab ride before you book one. After the dam and the village, mid-afternoon is a sensible time to catch the bus.

If you are deciding where Hatta fits in a longer stay, the day Hatta would replace in a five-night plan and planning Dubai around children’s energy and ages help place it.

Hatta for couples and adults

Adults have fewer gates and one real constraint, the bus. A couple with a car can be on the water from 7 a.m.; by bus, the first H02 puts you there mid-morning at the earliest. Add archery or the Aerial Adventure Park at Wadi Hub once Hatta Outdoor opens and still make a mid-afternoon H02. The single kayak and single water bike are 16+, with limits of 110 kg and 75 kg.

If you miss the bus

  • Missed an H04: the next is about 30 minutes later.
  • Missed an H02: the next is about two hours later, if there is one. RTA does not say when the last one leaves Hatta.
  • Missed the last H02: RTA’s Hatta taxi is “provided to residents of City of Hatta”, and E16 runs to Union Bus Station, though RTA publishes no E16 timetable.

The fix is planning, not rescue: aim for an H02 that leaves a later one behind it.

  • Water and sun protection; the dam and the walk between stops are open-air
  • Comfortable shoes and clothes you can get wet in for the boats
  • A nol card with balance and some cash for cafés and activities; RTA does not say how H02 is paid
  • A charged phone with data, for the journey planner and the operators’ numbers; a local SIM or eSIM bought on arrival gives you data without hotel Wi-Fi, and a power bank helps
  • Your children’s passports, if an operator asks to see an age

Can I visit Hatta from Dubai without renting a car?
Yes. H02 runs from Dubai Mall Bus Station to Hatta Bus Station every two hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and H04 connects the main stops every 30 minutes.

How much does the Hatta bus cost?
H02 is AED 25 per person per journey. H04 is AED 2 per person per stop. Children under 5 ride free; RTA pages disagree on whether a 5-year-old rides free, so carry a card for one.

What is the H04?
RTA’s Hatta Hop-on Hop-off: a loop from Hatta Bus Station past Wadi Hub, Hatta Hill Park, Hatta Dam and the Heritage Village, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Can children go kayaking in Hatta?
From age 2, in a double kayak that seats two adults and one child aged 2 to 4, or under 10 in a Yellow or Donut boat. Infants are not allowed on any ride, and single kayaks are 16+.

What are the kayak weight limits?
110 kg per person on kayaks and 75 kg per person on water bikes.

Are there age limits at Wadi Hub?
Most activities are 6+, and some are 16+. The site does not say which.

Is Wadi Hub open in summer?
Partly. An undated summer page says it “remains open throughout the summer” with four named activities.

Is the Heritage Village free?
Yes, per Dubai Municipality: “entry to the village is currently free of charge”.

Can I see the dam and the Heritage Village on the same day?
Yes. Both are H04 stops; Hatta Kayak lists 7 a.m. and the village opens at 7:30 or 8 a.m.

How far is Hatta from Dubai?
Google Maps put The Dubai Mall to Hatta Wadi Hub at 134 km on its fastest route, 1 hour 30 minutes by car with tolls, in a single reading on Oct. 1, 2026.

Are there weight limits at Wadi Hub?
None on the pages we read. The only published weight limits in Hatta are Hatta Kayak’s: 110 kg per person on kayaks and 75 kg on water bikes.

Is Hatta Dam open in summer?
None of the pages we read gives dam hours. Visit Hatta’s undated summer page lists Hatta Kayak at 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday to Sunday.

How many hours do I need?
A full day: three to four hours of travel on reported journey times, plus four to six hours in Hatta.

  1. The day’s H02 departures, and the one you will take home with one more after it.
  2. Whether Hatta Outdoor has reopened, by phone.
  3. Hatta Kayak’s hours that day.
  4. Each child’s age and weight against the kayak table.
  5. A nol card with enough balance for everyone aged 5 and over.

If you would rather someone else handled the rest of the week’s transfers and tickets, Dubai family holidays arranged from India cover those; a Hatta day is not among the inclusions the package page lists, so ask before counting on one.
