Facilities at Dubai Attractions: Prayer Rooms, Lockers, Re-Entry and Outside Food

Every Dubai attraction that publishes a food policy bans outside food. Almost none of the articles about them mention that the ban has written exceptions. The exceptions are the part that matters.

Dubai Parks and Resorts, which governs Motiongate, LEGOLAND, Real Madrid World and Riverland, prohibits outside food and drink with a stated carve-out for “food required for medical purposes, medically-indicated nutritional supplements and baby food/baby formula.” LEGOLAND Dubai puts it slightly differently: the operator bars outside food “except for baby food and small meals for special diet requirements”, with medical dietary needs requiring doctor documentation.

Outside food: the ban, and the exceptions nobody reads

What the published policies ban

Four operators publish a food policy, and their position is consistent:

• Atlantis Aquaventure: “Visitors are not allowed to bring food or beverages, glassware, or alcohol into the waterpark. The waterpark reserves the right to inspect all bags for any such items.”
• Wild Wadi: “Outside food and beverages are not permitted.”
• Dubai Parks and Resorts: permits no outside food and beverage, subject to the exceptions below.
• LEGOLAND Dubai: permits no outside food in the theme park or water park, subject to the exceptions below.

All four ban two categories outright with no exception: glass and alcohol. Ski Dubai, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame and Global Village publish no outside-food policy at all in the material reviewed here, so treat the ban as the safe assumption at those four and ask at the gate. Dubai Parks and Resorts also specifically bars coolers, suitcases and bags with wheels. That catches families who arrive with a wheeled cool-box expecting to leave it at a gate.

What “doctor documentation” means in practice

LEGOLAND is the only venue that states the requirement, and it is worth preparing rather than improvising. A one-page letter on a clinic letterhead naming the child, the condition and the dietary requirement is what a bag-check supervisor can act on. A prescription works. A verbal explanation at a turnstile does not, because the person checking bags has no authority to make an exception without something to point at.

Carry it printed. Carry a photograph of it as well. And keep the exempt food visible at the top of the bag rather than buried. A bag search that finds a lunchbox under a towel is a slower conversation than one that finds it immediately with a letter beside it.

The honest position for a Jain or strict vegetarian family

This is where the exceptions do not help, and it is better to know before you arrive.

A Jain diet, a no-onion-no-garlic satvik diet, or strict vegetarianism is a religious and ethical requirement, not a medical one. None of the published exceptions covers it. A family that brings a home-prepared meal on those grounds is relying on the goodwill of whoever is on the bag check that morning, which is not a plan.

What works instead is checking what the venue’s own outlets can serve before you buy tickets. Contact the venue, ask specifically, and get the answer in writing if the trip depends on it. Across the city the provision is far better than most visitors expect. Prayer rooms, venue by venue

This is the question most travel writing about Dubai skips entirely, and it is answerable for several major venues from the operators’ own material.

LEGOLAND Dubai is the most precisely documented in the city. The operator states there are male and female prayer rooms at both venues, and names the locations: in FACTORY and IMAGINATION at the theme park, and near the change rooms at the water park.

Dubai Mall states that prayer rooms are available on every mall level, for men and women. For a family basing a long day around Downtown, that removes the question entirely, including on the days you are visiting the aquarium, the ice rink or the Burj Khalifa entrance, all of which sit inside the mall.

Real Madrid World does not describe prayer facilities in its text, but its own downloadable park map carries a legend listing Washroom, Prayer Room, Lost & Found and Information, so the facility exists and the map you can download before you go marks it.

Several major venues publish nothing. Aquaventure’s terms, Wild Wadi’s before-you-visit page and Museum of the Future’s plan-your-visit page contain no prayer-room information in the material reviewed for this article. That is not evidence that none exists. It does mean you cannot plan around a documented location, and should ask on arrival instead.

What to do where nothing is published. Ask at guest services on arrival rather than searching. Every major venue has an information desk marked on its map, and this is a routine question they answer many times a day. If prayer times structure your visit, download the venue’s map or app before you arrive and locate the information desk first. That single step is faster than any search once you are inside.

Lockers, bags and what you cannot carry

Lockers are near universal, and Ski Dubai is the exception

Every major paid attraction in Dubai provides lockers, and Ski Dubai is the one venue that includes a standard locker with most passes rather than charging separately. Everywhere else that publishes a locker policy charges for it, and Global Village publishes nothing either way. Two operators publish their locker locations:

• LEGOLAND Dubai: “Lockers can be rented and are located in FACTORY in LEGOLAND® Dubai or next to the change rooms in LEGOLAND® Water Park.”
• Wild Wadi: lockers and towel rental available, in different sizes at different prices.

Dubai Parks and Resorts states plainly that “locker rental is available for your convenience at an additional charge; valuable items should be stored in these lockers or not brought into the Park.”

Aquaventure goes further, and this is the sentence to read twice: “The waterpark is not responsible for lost items, staff are not permitted to hold personal property. Please use the lockers to store your belongings.” The waterpark does not permit staff to hold your bag. There is no informal alternative.

At Ski Dubai most passes include a standard locker rather than charging separately, which is a genuine difference. You are changing into issued outerwear and boots, so somewhere for your own clothes is not optional. The two venues that take your bag at the door

Burj Khalifa’s At the Top requires you to leave large bags and strollers at the dedicated luggage counter. You go up with what you can carry.

Dubai Frame allows personal handbags and purses, with larger bags going to a baggage check room.

Neither is a problem if you expect it. Both are a problem if you arrive with a day-pack, a pram and a sleeping toddler.

What venues ban from a bag

Dubai Parks and Resorts publishes the fullest list, and it is broader than most visitors assume:

• Coolers, suitcases and bags with wheels
• Weapons, and items made of glass or with sharp edges
• Remote-control drones, toys, scooters, inline skates, skateboards and shoes with built-in wheels
• Pets, except service animals in special cases

LEGOLAND adds that bag checks occur at entry and that professional cameras without prior approval will be confiscated. Professional photography requires advance authorisation.

Aquaventure bans selfie sticks and action cameras on slides, prohibits shoes and thick-soled aqua socks on slides, requires guests to remove jewellery and hair accessories before entering the water at Atlas Village, and bars regular nappies from every pool.

And the clause that underpins all of it: by entering the Dubai Parks and Resorts sites, “you consent to you and your belongings being subject to searches, screenings and/or security checks.” The bag check is not discretionary and not negotiable.

If staff stop you at the bag check

It happens, and it goes better with a sequence than with an argument.

1. Show the documentation before you explain. If your food falls under a published exception, the letter is more persuasive than any account of why you need it. Hand it over first.
2. Name the exception in the operator’s own words. “This is baby food” or “this is a medically-indicated dietary requirement” maps onto the written policy. “My son can’t eat their food” does not, and leaves the officer nothing to act on.
3. Ask for the duty supervisor, once. The person searching bags applies a list. A supervisor can interpret one. Ask as a question, not a demand.
4. Accept a locker or a bin as the outcome. If the item is genuinely barred (glass, a cool-box, a wheeled bag), the choices are the locker, the car or leaving it. There is no fourth option, and pressing for one costs you the queue.
5. Do not repack in the queue. Move aside, sort it out, rejoin. At Aquaventure in particular you cannot leave a queue and return to your position.

The one thing worth doing in advance: if a member of your party has a requirement you expect staff to question, contact the venue before the visit and get the answer in writing. An email on a phone at a bag check settles in 10 seconds what a conversation will not settle at all.

Who is liable if something is lost

Nobody but you. Dubai Parks and Resorts states it “is not responsible for any lost or stolen property whilst guests are on site at any of the Theme Parks.” Aquaventure says the same and adds that staff cannot hold property.

The practical rule: passports stay at the hotel, a copy comes with you, and anything you would be upset to lose goes in the locker at the start of the day rather than after you have carried it around.

Re-entry: who allows it

For a family with young children, the ability to leave at midday and come back in the evening is worth more than almost any other facility. Here is who publishes what.

Dubai Parks and Resorts permits same-day re-entry. Its terms state: “Tickets must be presented for re-entry to the Park on the same day.” That is a clear, written permission with one condition: keep the ticket. It applies across Motiongate, LEGOLAND, Real Madrid World and Riverland.

That single sentence enables the best shape for a summer day at these parks: arrive at opening, leave before the worst of the afternoon heat, return for the last few hours. Most other venues publish nothing. Aquaventure’s terms, Wild Wadi’s visitor information and Museum of the Future’s planning page contain no same-day re-entry policy in the material reviewed here. Plan those as single continuous visits, and if a break matters to your day, ask at the gate on arrival rather than after you have left.

One rule is stricter than re-entry, and families often confuse the two. Aquaventure states that “guests may not exit a queue and return to the same position for any reason.” That is about queue-holding rather than park exit. You cannot send one adult to hold a place while the rest of the family does something else. It is worth knowing before a family splits up at the base of a tower.

Baby care, changing and nursing

LEGOLAND Dubai documents this better than any other venue in the city. Its baby care centres offer “a private area for nursing, changing tables, play area and an area for preparing baby food”, located in IMAGINATION at the theme park and adjacent to First Aid at the water park. The park also rents strollers and wheelchairs, and provides phone charging stations for a small fee.

Global Village hires baby carts from AED 15, which is worth taking even if you brought a pram, because the site is very large and open-air.

Dubai Mall’s concierge provides wheelchairs, baby strollers, power banks and a complimentary in-mall buggy service, bookable at any concierge desk.

Both waterparks require swim nappies. Aquaventure bars regular nappies from every pool and sells swim nappies on site; Wild Wadi states that babies and toddlers must wear them. Staff check this, and it is the most common reason a family with a toddler makes an unplanned purchase on arrival.

Where prams cannot go is the other half of this problem. The Burj Khalifa luggage counter is the clearest example, and the pattern repeats at observation decks and heritage sites. Accessibility and support

Dubai documents this better than most destinations, and two things are worth naming precisely.

Wild Wadi holds two named certifications. It is IBCCES Certified Autism Friendly, with staff trained accordingly, and it participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme, offering discreet lanyards for guests with non-visible disabilities. For a family with a neurodivergent child, that is a stronger reason to choose a venue than any ride list.

Free entry for People of Determination is widespread, and the companion allowance differs:

How to plan a full day around these rules

Before you leave the hotel. Passport stays in the room safe; a photograph of it comes with you. Dietary documentation printed and photographed. Swim nappies if a toddler is coming to a waterpark. No wheeled bag, no cooler, no glass bottles.

At the gate. Expect a bag search and treat it as routine. Put exempt food at the top of the bag with the letter beside it. If you are carrying a pram to a venue that does not take prams inside, decide before you queue whether one adult peels off.

First 15 minutes inside. Two things, in this order. Put everything you do not need in the locker. Not later, now, because you will not walk back for it. Then find the information desk and note where the prayer room and the baby care room are, even if you do not need them yet.

Midday. If you are at a Dubai Parks and Resorts venue, this is when the re-entry rule earns its keep: leave, eat properly somewhere with air-conditioning and your own dietary options, and come back for the evening. Keep the ticket. At venues with no published re-entry, plan the meal inside and check the outlet options before you are hungry.

On the way out. Empty the locker before you are tired. Check lost and found before you leave the site rather than calling the next day. At Dubai Mall it sits on the Lower Ground floor next to FAB Bank, and most venues mark theirs on the park map.
