Many families choose a Dubai theme park the wrong way round. They pick the park with the best photos, book four tickets, and discover at the first ride entrance that their child is two centimetres too short.

It is one of the most common ways a family theme park day in Dubai goes wrong.

The reason is simple, and it rarely appears in any park’s marketing: Dubai’s theme parks gate almost every ride by height, not by age. A tall five-year-old can ride things a small seven-year-old cannot. The birthday on the passport is irrelevant at the turnstile. What matters is where the measuring stick lands.

That changes the question you should be asking. Not “which Dubai theme park is best for kids?” but “which Dubai theme park has the most rides my specific child can get on?”

Those two questions often have different answers.

A 96 cm three-year-old and a 130 cm eight-year-old are effectively visiting two different cities. At LEGOLAND Dubai, the three-year-old reaches a handful of gentle attractions and watches the rest. The eight-year-old clears nearly the whole park. Same tickets, same price, very different days.

The financial side matters too. A family of four at Dubai Parks and Resorts is looking at roughly AED 1,200–1,400 for a one-day, one-park visit before food, parking or transport. If half your group can only access a third of the rides, you have not bought a theme park day. You have bought an expensive walk in the sun.

What this guide gives you:

  • A three-step method that turns your child’s measurement into a booking decision
  • Ride height restrictions at each park, with a clear line between official data and our own judgement
  • Park recommendations for children aged 3, 5, 8 and 12
  • A height chart covering all four parks at once
  • Answers for the awkward cases — borderline heights, thick shoes, growth spurts, and children who qualify but refuse

Before you read further, measure your child against a wall. Shoes off, heels flat, in centimetres. Write the number down. Everything below depends on it.

Measure. Match. Book.

Three steps. That is the whole method.

1. Measure

Diagram of correct and incorrect ways to measure a child's height, and why children measure tallest in the morning

Shoes off, heels against a wall, taken at home this week. Not last summer’s number, not an estimate.

Then subtract 2 cm as a planning margin. Park measurements are stricter than kitchen-wall ones, and children measure marginally shorter later in the day as spinal discs compress under gravity.

With several children, write down the shortest one. That number, not the average, decides your park.

2. Match

Dubai’s parks cluster their minimums around a handful of numbers: 80, 90, 95, 105, 120, 130 and 140 cm.

Find the first one your child has not cleared. That is their wall, and it is what they will run into all day.

A child at 103 cm has not cleared 105. A child at 118 cm has not cleared 120. Close does not count — staff cannot waive a posted threshold.

3. Book

Choose the park that has stacked the most attractions underneath your child’s wall. Not the biggest park, not the best-reviewed one. Use the Quick Reference Card above.

Two worked examples

Riya, age 6, measures 108 cm. Planning height 106 cm. Her wall is 120 cm — she has cleared 105 but not 120. LEGOLAND groups a large block of rides at 105 cm, all sitting below her wall. → LEGOLAND Dubai, full day. She clears nearly everything except The Dragon.

Arjun, age 9 at 132 cm, with sister Meera, age 4 at 99 cm. Use Meera’s number. Her wall is 105 cm; his is nothing. No single park serves both well. → This is a split-day decision, not a park choice.

See mixed-age families.

Dubai Theme Parks at a Glance

Three of the four — MOTIONGATE Dubai, LEGOLAND Dubai and Real Madrid World — sit inside the Dubai Parks and Resorts complex on Sheikh Zayed Road, roughly 45 minutes from central Dubai and a five to ten minute walk from one another. IMG Worlds of Adventure is separate, on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and is fully indoors.

What this table does not show:

LEGOLAND is built for young children, but it has a floor at 105 cm that catches many four- and five-year-olds. IMG has the widest thrill range and the thinnest offering for the very young. MOTIONGATE spreads its rides across the most height tiers, which is why it usually wins for families with a wide age gap.

For deeper coverage of the complex itself, see our Dubai Parks and Resorts Guide.

How We Verified This Height Information

Height data on Dubai theme parks is messier than it looks, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

Editorial methodology

To prepare this guide we:

  • Reviewed official ride restriction pages published by each park or its parent operator
  • Compared official entry, supervision and admission policies across all four parks
  • Cross-checked conflicting height figures across multiple secondary sources
  • Set aside unofficial values wherever the evidence conflicted, rather than picking one
  • Kept official information visually separate from our own recommendations throughout

How much official data each park publishes

This is the honest picture, and it should shape how much weight you give each section.

ParkOfficial height data availableWhat that means for you
LEGOLAND Dubai★★★★★Complete public ride-by-ride table on the park’s own site
MOTIONGATE Dubai★★★☆☆Official attraction directory filterable by height band; no single consolidated table
IMG Worlds★★★☆☆Official age and policy statements; ride-level heights mostly via ticketing partners
Real Madrid World★☆☆☆☆No public per-ride height chart at all

Where the data gets thin

Only LEGOLAND Dubai publishes a single consolidated height table.

For MOTIONGATE and IMG Worlds, complete ride-by-ride lists mostly exist on ticketing partner sites and travel blogs — and those sources sometimes contradict each other.

The Smurf Village Express appears as both 90 cm and 100 cm depending on where you look. The Green Hornet ride is listed anywhere between 105 cm and 140 cm.

How we handled the conflicts.

Where sources disagreed, we describe the height tier rather than committing to a disputed number. You will see “around 105 cm” and “commonly published as 130 cm” in the MOTIONGATE and IMG sections. That imprecision is deliberate. A precise-looking number we cannot stand behind is worse than an approximate one we can — so approximate wording stays approximate everywhere it appears, and never hardens into “requires” or “opens at” unless a park has published it.

Reading the labels

Legend explaining the Official, Editorial view, Recommendation and Commonly published labels, and the five ride access levels

Three markers appear throughout:

Official: published by the park or its parent operator, with the source named.

Editorial view: our reading of what the data means in practice. Not park policy.

Recommendation: what we would actually advise a family to do.

Things change:

Parks adjust restrictions, close attractions for maintenance and open new ones, sometimes without notice. Treat everything here as a planning tool, then confirm at the ride entrance or with Guest Services on the day.

How Dubai Theme Parks Decide Ride Eligibility

Height is the primary gate

Official: IMG Worlds states in its visitor terms that ride restrictions are determined by height rather than age. LEGOLAND Dubai publishes a public height restrictions table. Dubai Parks and Resorts lets visitors filter its attraction directory by height band.

The reason is engineering, not policy preference. Restraint systems — lap bars, shoulder harnesses, seat belts — are designed to hold a body of a certain size. A child too small for the restraint can slip within it.

The manufacturer sets the minimum. An independent inspection body signs it off. The park has no authority to override it.

This is worth explaining to your child in advance. It lands better than “the man said no.”

Age rules cover three narrower things

Content:

IMG Worlds’ Haunted Hotel walkthrough is restricted to guests aged 15 and over, with 15-to-18-year-olds asked to show ID. That is a content rating, not a safety measurement.

Supervision:

At Dubai Parks and Resorts, children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18 holding a valid ticket. At IMG Worlds, children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult of at least 16.

Pricing:

Under-3s enter the Dubai Parks and Resorts venues free. At IMG Worlds, entry is free below 105 cm — a height-based rule even for admission, which tells you something about how the park thinks.

The three tiers of ride access

Icons for the five ride eligibility types: no restriction, accompanied only, unaccompanied, age restricted, and not published
  • No minimum – Walkthroughs, shows, play areas, MINILAND, meet-and-greets, some 4D cinemas.
  • Accompanied minimum – The child can ride at a lower height if a paying adult rides alongside.
  • Unaccompanied minimum – Above this the child rides alone — commonly around 130 to 140 cm on major thrill rides.

Editorial view: the accompanied tier is the one most parents overlook, and it is often the difference between a park working and not working for a child around 110 cm. It also has a cost: that adult needs a full ticket and needs to be willing to actually board.

At the height check

Height measurement stations sit at each ride queue entrance, and busy attractions check again at the loading platform.

Shoes are usually kept on, but the policy is not consistent across rides. Thick-soled trainers that clear one queue may not clear the next.

Guest Services at every park will measure your child once on arrival and tell you which tier they fall into. It costs nothing and saves a lot of walking.

Rider switch

If one child clears a thrill ride and a sibling does not, most parks operate a rider switch — sometimes called child swap. One adult waits with the younger child while the other rides, then they trade without queuing again.

Two things to know. It needs at least two adults. And it is not always signposted — ask the ride attendant at the queue entrance.

Queue-skip passes

Dubai Parks and Resorts sells QFAST at MOTIONGATE and LEGOLAND. IMG Worlds sells its own Fast Track products, including a separately priced fast track for the Haunted Hotel.

Recommendation: buy on arrival, not in advance. Dubai’s theme parks are not consistently as busy as their American or European equivalents, and on a quiet weekday you may walk onto rides without a pass at all.

Strollers, lockers, parent rooms

All four parks rent strollers. This matters more than it sounds — these are large sites, and a tired four-year-old at 3 pm ends a day faster than any height restriction.

IMG Worlds also provides parent rooms with baby-changing and nursing facilities. Lockers are available at each park.

Accessibility

Official: MOTIONGATE Dubai holds Certified Autism Center status from IBCCES, awarded after staff training and an on-site assessment that produced sensory guides — ratings for noise, lighting and other sensory intensity by area.

If you are travelling with a sensory-sensitive child, ask Guest Services for the sensory guide on arrival. Dubai Parks and Resorts also publishes wheelchair access information on individual ride pages.

Why one ride says yes and another says no

Two rides that look equally gentle can carry different minimums because their restraint systems differ. A carousel with an over-the-shoulder bar may demand more height than a coaster with a lap belt.

Do not reason from how a ride looks. Read the posted number.

Theme Park Recommendations by Your Child’s Age

The heights below are approximate reference ranges based on standard WHO and Indian Academy of Pediatrics growth patterns. They are a guide for planning before you measure — not a prediction. Children of the same age routinely differ by 10–15 cm, and Indian children frequently sit somewhat below international median curves.

5 years101–115 cm

Chart showing typical height ranges for children aged 3 to 12 against Dubai theme park height thresholds

Children aged 3 years

Usually 88–100 cm. Almost always below 105 cm.

Editorial view:

A three-year-old will not get full value from a full-price ticket at any of these four parks. That is arithmetic rather than criticism — most rides sit at 90 cm minimum or higher, and the ones a 95 cm child can access number in the single digits.

Official — LEGOLAND Dubai:

Submarine Adventure and DUPLO Express open at 80 cm. Lost Kingdom Adventure at 90 cm. Rescue Academy, Kid Power Towers and City Airport at 95 cm. MINILAND, the MINILAND Light Show and the Factory Tour carry no height restriction.

Together that is a genuine half-day. MINILAND, with its LEGO-brick reconstruction of the Dubai skyline, holds a small child’s attention well.

Recommendation:

If a theme park is not the reason for the trip, spend the money elsewhere at this age — Dubai Aquarium, the beach, or an indoor play venue. If a park is non-negotiable, pick LEGOLAND, arrive at opening, and plan to leave by early afternoon.

One money-saver:

At IMG Worlds, children below 105 cm enter free. If you are visiting IMG primarily for older children, a three-year-old costs nothing at the gate.

Children aged 5 years

Usually 101–115 cm. The most consequential age in this guide, because 105 cm sits in the middle of that range.

Official — LEGOLAND Dubai:

Wave Racers, Merlin’s Flying Machine, LEGO Technic Twister, Beetle Bounce, Merlin’s Challenge and Dragon’s Apprentice all open at exactly 105 cm.

MOTIONGATE has a similar cluster at the same height. A child at 106 cm has a good day. A child at 103 cm has a frustrating one. Three centimetres separates those two experiences.

This is not hypothetical. LEGOLAND’s guest services team has publicly responded to a parent whose 104.5 cm five-year-old was turned away from ride after ride, confirming that thresholds are set by the ride manufacturer and an independent inspection body and cannot be waived.

Warning callout explaining that 105 cm is the height where the most Dubai theme park rides open, and that thresholds cannot be waived

At 105 cm or taller:

LEGOLAND fills a full day comfortably. MOTIONGATE also works — its 105 cm tier plus its 90 cm carousel tier gives a five-year-old plenty.

Under 105 cm:

Plan as though they were three. Consider adding the LEGOLAND Water Park in cooler months, where several attractions have lower or no minimums, though the bigger slides sit at 102 cm and above. (The water park closes on Wednesdays.)

Recommendation:

This is the age where combo tickets most often go to waste. A two-park pass sounds like better value, but if your child clears only a third of each park you have doubled the cost of an incomplete day.

Children aged 8 years

Usually 118–134 cm. The age where these parks start delivering full value.

At 120 cm, LEGOLAND’s The Dragon becomes available with an accompanying adult. Around 125 cm, MOTIONGATE’s mid-tier coasters come into range. Around 130 cm, IMG’s unaccompanied tier opens.

Recommendation: MOTIONGATE Dubai:

It has the widest spread of rides across the 105–130 cm range, so an eight-year-old is not stuck choosing between “too gentle” and “too tall.” The progression from family rides to first real coasters is exactly what this age wants.

IMG becomes viable here, especially at the taller end. Below about 130 cm they will need an adult alongside for several rides — fine, but factor it into how many adults you bring.

LEGOLAND at 8 is a judgment call:

Ride access is near-total but the theming is pitched younger. A child who loves building will have a great day; one who has outgrown LEGO may find it slow after two hours. With a younger sibling in the group, it remains the right compromise.

Still blocked at 8:

The top thrill tier, commonly listed around 140 cm. And the Haunted Hotel at IMG, which is 15+ regardless of height.

Children aged 12 years

Usually 138–158 cm. Height is essentially no longer a constraint.

At 140 cm and above, a twelve-year-old clears every height threshold at all four parks. The only remaining gate is the age rule on IMG’s Haunted Hotel.

Recommendation: IMG Worlds of Adventure:

The Velociraptor coaster, the Marvel thrill rides and the Lost Valley dinosaur zone are built for this age, and the park is fully air-conditioned — which matters between May and September.

MOTIONGATE is a close second and arguably better if your twelve-year-old is not a hardcore thrill-seeker. Its top-tier rides are intense but the park has more variety in between.

Real Madrid World becomes legitimate at 12:

For a football supporter. The Bernabéu Experience and trophy displays are the point of the visit, and Hala Madrid and Stars Flyer give it real ride credibility. For a child with no interest in the sport, it remains the weakest of the four.

LEGOLAND at 12:

skip unless there is a much younger sibling or a specific LEGO enthusiasm.

On maximum heights:

Several rides carry an upper limit, commonly 195 cm. This rarely affects twelve-year-olds but occasionally catches a tall teenager or parent.

Park-by-Park Ride Eligibility Guide

IMG Worlds of Adventure

Dubai’s largest indoor theme park, on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with around 22 rides across Marvel, Cartoon Network, Lost Valley, IMG Boulevard, the Haunted Hotel and the newer IMG Kids Zone.

Official:

Ride restrictions are determined by height rather than age. The Haunted Hotel is restricted to guests aged 15 and over, with 15-to-18-year-olds asked to show ID. Entry is free below 105 cm.

Commonly published, not officially consolidated:

Around 1.05 m is a frequent accompanied minimum for family rides, and around 1.30 m a frequent unaccompanied minimum. The most intense rides — Thor Thunder Spin and Predator among them — are usually listed at about 1.40 m. Velociraptor is commonly published as 1.30 m. Spider-Man Doc Ock’s Revenge is generally listed as 1.20 m, or 1.05 m accompanied. The IMG Kids Zone play area is commonly published as 90 cm minimum with a 50 kg weight limit.

IMG does not publish a single consolidated height table. Use these figures to plan, then confirm at the ride entrance.

Editorial view:

The gap between the Kids Zone and the main ride roster is wider here than at any other Dubai park, with little in the middle. That makes IMG excellent for one kind of family and poor for another.

Strengths:

Entirely indoors. Genuine thrill rides. Strong IP that older kids recognise. Free entry below 105 cm. Stroller rental and parent rooms.

Limitations:

Thinnest young-child offering of the four. The Haunted Hotel, one of its signature attractions, is 15+ only. Highest gate price, though discounted online rates are common.

Choose IMG Worlds if:

  • Your youngest is 9 or above, or comfortably over 130 cm
  • You are visiting between May and September and need air conditioning
  • There is a Marvel or Cartoon Network fan in the group

Skip IMG Worlds if:

  • Your youngest is under about 120 cm — they will spend the day watching
  • You are travelling primarily for toddler rides
  • Your family does not enjoy high-intensity attractions
  • You want everyone riding the same things together

MOTIONGATE Dubai

A Hollywood-themed park inside Dubai Parks and Resorts, built around DreamWorks Animation, Columbia Pictures, Lionsgate and the Smurfs, plus the Studio Central hub. Broadest ride roster of the Dubai Parks properties; the DreamWorks zone is entirely indoors. See also our MOTIONGATE Dubai Guide.

Commonly published tiers:

  • Around 90 cm: gentle carousel and dark rides in the DreamWorks and Smurfs zones — Melman Go Round, Mr. Ping’s Noodle Fling, Penguin Air, Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey
  • Around 100 cm: Smurf Village Express, a genuine first coaster
  • Around 105 cm: Dragon Gliders, Swamp Celebration, Kung Fu Panda’s Unstoppable Awesomeness, The Swinging Viking
  • Around 125 cm: Madagascar Mad Pursuit, Now You See Me, John Wick Open Road Chase
  • Around 130 cm and above: Capitol Bullet Train, Zombieland Blast-Off and the most intense attractions
  • No restriction: Camp Viking, Woodland Play Park, Smurfberry Factory, live shows

Published figures vary noticeably between sources here. The official Dubai Parks and Resorts attraction filter is the most reliable place to check before you travel.

Editorial view:

This is the park that most rewards having read a height guide. Families who arrive knowing their child’s tier tend to have a genuinely full day. Families who assume “it’s a movie park, there’ll be something” often find their child bounced from the coasters and stuck in the 90 cm zone.

Strengths:

The best height-tier spread in Dubai. Strong live shows. Rider switch handled well. Certified Autism Center status with sensory guides available.

Limitations:

Substantial outdoor exposure beyond the DreamWorks zone. Some IP is dated for younger children who may not recognise the films.

Choose MOTIONGATE if:

  • You have children of different heights in one group
  • Your child is between 105 cm and 140 cm
  • You want a full day rather than a half-day
  • You are visiting between November and March

Skip MOTIONGATE if:

  • Your youngest is under 95 cm
  • You are travelling only for toddler-suitable rides
  • Your family dislikes thrill attractions entirely
  • You are visiting in July or August and cannot tolerate outdoor heat

LEGOLAND Dubai

Purpose-built for children aged 2 to 12, organised into themed lands including KINGDOMS, LEGO CITY, IMAGINATION, ADVENTURE, FACTORY and MINILAND. A separate LEGOLAND Water Park sits alongside, closed on Wednesdays. More in our LEGOLAND Dubai Guide.

Official — published by LEGOLAND Dubai on its own height restrictions page:

Boating School carries a minimum age of 1 year rather than a height minimum. Driving School, Junior Driving School, Sea Port, Police Headquarters, Build & Test and Pharaoh’s Revenge carry non-height restrictions posted at the attraction. In the water park, Splash Out has a 102 cm minimum and a 136 kg maximum rider weight.

Editorial view:

The 105 cm threshold is the most consequential number in Dubai family travel, and it is invisible in every piece of marketing the park produces. A parent who measures before booking has a completely different LEGOLAND experience from one who does not — and that difference has nothing to do with the park’s quality.

Strengths:

Transparent, published height data. The gentlest ride profile in Dubai. MINILAND works for every age. Under-3s enter free.

Limitations:

Below 105 cm the park thins out sharply. Largely outdoor. Smaller ride count than MOTIONGATE or IMG.

Choose LEGOLAND if:

  • Your child is between 105 cm and 130 cm
  • Your child is under 8 and genuinely likes building
  • This is your family’s first Dubai theme park
  • You want the gentlest ride profile available

Skip LEGOLAND if:

  • Your child is under 105 cm and you were expecting a full day
  • Your children mainly want thrill rides
  • Everyone in the group is 10 or over
  • You are visiting in peak summer with no tolerance for outdoor queuing

Real Madrid World

The world’s first football-club theme park, opened at Dubai Parks and Resorts in April 2024 on the former Bollywood Parks site. Zones include Celebration Plaza, Champions Avenue and Stars Universe. See our Real Madrid World Guide.

There is insufficient official ride-level height data for this park. We have set it out as three lists rather than estimates.

Known

Official:

Height, weight, size and age restrictions apply to certain rides, displayed at each ride and available from Guest Services. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18 holding a valid ticket. Under-3s enter free.

Headline attractions are Hala Madrid, the Middle East’s first wooden coaster, and Stars Flyer, a swing-chair ride the operator describes as the world’s tallest at around 140 metres. Alongside these sit the Bernabéu Experience walkthrough, the White Hearts exhibition, the Factory of Dreams VR ride, The Wave – La Ola family coaster, and football training pitches. Lockers are available.

Unknown

  • The minimum height for Hala Madrid
  • The minimum height for Stars Flyer
  • The minimum height for The Wave – La Ola
  • Which rides offer an accompanied tier, and at what height
  • Whether any ride carries a maximum height

No public chart exists for any of these. Guides that fill this column are estimating.

Before you visit

  • Call Dubai Parks and Resorts Guest Services and ask for the specific rides your child cares about
  • Do this before booking, not on the day
  • Budget this as a half-day alongside a full day elsewhere
  • Assume the walkthrough attractions, trophy displays and football activities have no meaningful height gate — these are the reliable part of the visit

Strengths:

Genuinely unique. Hala Madrid is well regarded and queues tend to be short. The football activities give children something to do that is not a ride, useful when a sibling is too small for the coasters.

Limitations:

Smallest ride roster of the four. No published height chart. Narrow appeal. Largely outdoor.

Choose Real Madrid World if:

  • Someone in your family genuinely follows football
  • You already hold a multi-park pass and want a lighter half-day

Skip Real Madrid World if:

  • Nobody in the family cares about football
  • You need a guaranteed full day of rides
  • You need confirmed height eligibility before booking and cannot call ahead
  • Your children are under 6

On the Real Madrid World column: every row reads “not published” because that is accurate. The park does not release per-ride minimums publicly.

Using this chart: find your child’s band, then look at the band below it. Within about 2 cm of the next threshold up, plan as though they have not cleared it.

What If… The Situations Parents Actually Hit

My child is exactly at the minimum height

Assume they will not clear it, and make that ride a bonus rather than the centrepiece. Measurement is done quickly, by a staff member, against a fixed stick — there is no rounding in your favour. Do it first thing in the morning if it matters.

My child wears thick shoes

Some rides measure with shoes on, some without, and the policy is not consistent across parks or even within one. Chunky trainers may clear one queue and not the next, which produces the worst outcome: they ride something, get refused elsewhere, and cannot understand why. Plan around barefoot height and treat anything extra as luck.

My child will grow between booking and travelling

Children in the 4-to-8 range typically add around 5–8 cm a year, so a three-month gap could be worth 1–2 cm. Enough to matter at 103 cm.

Recommendation:

Book the park that works for their height today. If they cross a threshold before you fly, you get a better day than planned. Booking on a hoped-for growth spurt is how families end up disappointed.

My child is very tall for their age

Height clears the gate; height is not maturity. A 128 cm six-year-old technically qualifies for rides designed for nine-year-olds, and the restraint will hold them safely — but the content may still frighten them. The intensity ratings on the Dubai Parks and Resorts attraction directory are more useful here than the height number. Filter by low, medium and high intensity rather than by what your child is allowed to board.

The park measured my child differently from how I did

The park’s measurement is the one that counts. Common causes: measuring on carpet, not pressing heels flat, or measuring at bedtime rather than in the morning. This is what the 2 cm planning margin is for.

My child qualifies but refuses to ride

More common than parents expect, particularly around ages 5 to 7 and particularly on the first coaster of the day.

Do not spend the morning negotiating. Do three or four things they are comfortable with, let them watch the coaster from the exit a couple of times, and offer it again after lunch. Many children say yes on the second ask, and no child says yes because they were pressured.

Refusal is also not lost money in the way a height block is. A blocked child cannot ride. A reluctant child might, later.

Three worked scenarios

Family A

Two parents and a 3-year-old at 94 cm

At LEGOLAND the child clears the 80 and 90 cm tiers plus MINILAND. At MOTIONGATE, the 90 cm carousel tier and little else. At IMG, free entry but almost nothing to ride.

LEGOLAND, half day

Or skip the park — at this height an aquarium morning and a beach afternoon delivers more for well under half the cost.

Family B — two parents and 10-year-old twins at 138 cm. They clear everything at LEGOLAND but may be bored by mid-afternoon. Every tier at MOTIONGATE including the thrill rides. Almost everything at IMG, with air conditioning. → MOTIONGATE in winter, IMG in summer. Either delivers a genuine full day, giving the lowest per-ride cost of these three scenarios.

Family C — two parents, a 5-year-old at 102 cm and a 9-year-old at 133 cm. The hardest and most common case. The older child is ready for coasters; the younger is three centimetres short of the tier that would make the same park work. → MOTIONGATE is the least-bad single-park answer, using rider switch. But seriously consider the two-park pass and splitting: LEGOLAND and MOTIONGATE are a five to ten minute walk apart within the same complex, so one parent takes each child to the park that suits them and you meet for lunch. This is the most under-used planning move at Dubai Parks and Resorts.

Mixed-age families, in detail

One toddler and one older child. Plan for the toddler and accept the older child is under-served, or split the group. With two adults, splitting is usually better value than compromising. With one adult, LEGOLAND is the only park where both have something.

Two children of similar age but different heights. Parents assume same-age means same-access. If the gap straddles 105 cm or 130 cm, treat them as different ages entirely and plan for the shorter one.

A teenager and a preschooler. Do not attempt one park. The height gap is 40 cm or more and no Dubai park serves both ends well. Two-park pass, split the day, meet for a meal.

Grandparents accompanying children. Two practical points. An adult who does not want to ride cannot unlock the accompanied tier — you need someone willing to board. And all four parks involve substantial walking, with only IMG and MOTIONGATE’s DreamWorks zone meaningfully air-conditioned. Rent a stroller even for a child who has outgrown one; it doubles as somewhere to sit.

Seasonal and Timing Strategy

When you go affects what your ticket is worth almost as much as your child’s height does. Our Best Time to Visit Dubai guide covers the wider picture.

By season

Month-by-month chart showing which of the four Dubai theme parks are worth visiting, with IMG Worlds suitable year round

May to September. Only IMG Worlds is fully indoors. The other three are substantially outdoors, and a Dubai summer afternoon ends a day early regardless of ride eligibility. IMG or nothing, with MOTIONGATE’s indoor DreamWorks zone as a partial exception.

November to March. The outdoor parks come into their own. This is when they are worth full price, and when a two-park pass makes real sense.

October and April. Transitional. Comfortable mornings, difficult afternoons. Arrive at opening and finish by mid-afternoon.

By day

Weekdays are quieter and better for young children — shorter queues mean less standing, and less standing means a longer usable day before patience runs out.

LEGOLAND Water Park closes on Wednesdays, which matters if you are planning a two-park day around it.

School holidays, both UAE and Indian, bring the longest queues of the year. On fixed holiday dates, budget for a queue-skip pass.

Through the day

Arrive at opening. The highest-value timing decision, for a reason specific to this guide: your child is at their tallest first thing in the morning. On a borderline threshold, the opening hour is when they are most likely to clear it.

Do borderline rides first, then must-do rides, then everything else. Most families do this backwards and start with whatever is nearest the entrance.

Use the middle of the day indoors. MINILAND and the Factory Tour at LEGOLAND, the DreamWorks zone at MOTIONGATE, the exhibitions at Real Madrid World. At IMG the whole park qualifies.

If you are travelling to Dubai Parks and Resorts by public transport, our Dubai Metro Guide covers the connections.

Common Mistakes Parents Make

Booking on advertising rather than measurement

Park marketing shows children of all sizes on rides. It does not show the measuring stick. Promotional imagery implies universal access and is not a statement about your child’s eligibility.

Assuming age guarantees access

“He’s seven, he’ll be fine” is an expensive sentence. A small seven-year-old at 112 cm has less access than a tall five-year-old at 118 cm. Once you have a measurement, age stops being useful.

Assuming LEGOLAND is automatically the young-children park

It is designed for young children, which is not the same as being accessible to all of them. Below 105 cm it becomes a half-day rather than a full one — price the visit accordingly.

Buying a multi-park combo before checking eligibility

For a shorter child, a combo pass means paying more to access a second park with the same restrictions as the first. Buy a single-park ticket and add the second later if the day goes well. The exception is the deliberate split-day strategy above, where a two-park pass earns its cost by serving two children separately.

Not counting your riding adults

Several rides a child can technically board require a paying adult in the seat beside them, and rider switch needs at least two adults. With one adult and two small children, the maths can quietly stop working. Count before booking.

Expecting a toddler to enjoy a thrill park

Toddlers enjoy doing, not watching, and the youngest child usually sets the mood of the whole group. If your youngest is under 3, consider skipping the theme park this trip.

Ignoring the season

A Dubai summer afternoon ends your day early regardless of ride eligibility. November to March for the outdoor parks; June to September, IMG.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Dubai theme park is best for a 3-year-old?

LEGOLAND Dubai, with tempered expectations. It publishes the lowest minimums of the four — Submarine Adventure and DUPLO Express at 80 cm, Lost Kingdom Adventure at 90 cm, and Rescue Academy, Kid Power Towers and City Airport at 95 cm. MINILAND and the Factory Tour have no height restriction. A typical three-year-old at 90–96 cm reaches a genuine handful of attractions plus all the walkthrough content — a good half-day rather than a full one. If a theme park is not the reason for your trip, Dubai Aquarium, a beach morning or an indoor play venue will deliver more for less at this age.

Which theme park has the most rides for a 5-year-old?

It depends entirely on whether your five-year-old has crossed 105 cm. Above that line, LEGOLAND opens up substantially — Wave Racers, Merlin’s Flying Machine, LEGO Technic Twister, Beetle Bounce, Merlin’s Challenge and Dragon’s Apprentice all become available on top of the lower tiers, which is a full day. Below it, LEGOLAND drops to roughly what a three-year-old gets. MOTIONGATE is the alternative worth considering, since its 90 cm tier gives a shorter child a few extra options, though not dramatically more. This is the age where the measurement most changes the answer.

Can an 8-year-old ride roller coasters in Dubai?

Usually several. A typical eight-year-old between 118 and 134 cm can access LEGOLAND’s Dragon’s Apprentice at 105 cm and The Dragon at 120 cm with an accompanying adult. At MOTIONGATE, rides commonly published around 125 cm — Madagascar Mad Pursuit, Now You See Me, John Wick Open Road Chase — come into range. At IMG Worlds, a child around 130 cm can generally ride Velociraptor unaccompanied. What tends to stay out of reach is the top thrill tier, commonly listed around 140 cm. The Haunted Hotel at IMG is closed to anyone under 15 regardless of height.

Is height more important than age?

For ride access, yes. Dubai’s theme parks gate by height because restraint systems are engineered for body size, with minimums set by the ride manufacturer and verified by an independent inspection body. IMG Worlds states in its visitor terms that ride restrictions are determined by height rather than age. Age rules cover different ground — content ratings such as the 15+ limit on the Haunted Hotel, supervision requirements, and admission pricing. For planning which rides your child can board, the measurement is the number that matters.

Do Dubai theme parks actually measure children’s height?

Consistently. Height measurement stations sit at each ride queue entrance, and busy attractions check again at the loading platform. Some rides measure with shoes on and some without, so thick-soled trainers are not a reliable strategy. Children also measure slightly shorter later in the day as spinal discs compress, sometimes by close to a centimetre — so do borderline rides first thing. Guest Services will measure your child once on arrival and tell you which tier they fall into.

Which rides require an accompanying adult?

It varies by ride, but the pattern is consistent — many attractions publish a lower minimum for accompanied riders and a higher one for solo riders. At LEGOLAND, The Dragon has a 120 cm minimum and guests below 130 cm must ride with an adult who also meets it. At MOTIONGATE, several rides list an accompanied band, commonly around 90 to 122 cm or 105 to 130 cm. At IMG Worlds, around 1.05 m is a frequent accompanied minimum against a 1.30 m solo threshold. Count your adults against your children before booking.

Do adults need their own tickets to accompany children on rides?

Yes. There is no rider-only or supervisor ticket at any of these parks — an adult riding alongside a child needs full paid admission. This matters most for families relying on the accompanied tier, because the strategy carries a real cost. It also means a grandparent who comes to watch but does not ride cannot unlock accompanied-tier rides. Plan on at least one ticket-holding adult genuinely willing to board. At Dubai Parks and Resorts, children under 13 must in any case be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18 holding a valid ticket.

Can children ride alone once they reach a certain height?

Generally yes, and the threshold is commonly around 130 cm, though it varies by ride and park. Below that, many attractions still allow the child to ride with an adult beside them. Two caveats: park-level supervision rules still apply — under-13s at Dubai Parks and Resorts and under-12s at IMG need an accompanying adult in the park, even if not in the ride vehicle. And clearing a height threshold says nothing about emotional readiness, which is a separate judgement.

Is there a maximum height, and can adults be too tall?

Yes, on some rides. Several attractions carry an upper limit, commonly published as 195 cm, and LEGOLAND lists it explicitly for The Dragon. This is a restraint-geometry limit rather than a safety-margin one — a rider too tall for the harness cannot be secured correctly. It rarely affects children but does occasionally catch a tall teenager or parent, so it is worth knowing if anyone in your group is close to that mark. As with minimums, the posted number at the ride is the one that applies.

Can pregnant visitors ride?

Most thrill rides across Dubai’s theme parks are not suitable during pregnancy, and this is stated in ticket terms and on individual ride signage. Restrictions typically cover coasters, drop towers, spinning rides and anything with sudden acceleration. Gentle attractions, walkthroughs, shows, MINILAND and most 4D cinemas are usually fine. Because the specific list varies by ride and by park, ask Guest Services on arrival rather than working it out at each queue. Rider switch is worth knowing about here too — it lets a pregnant parent wait with younger children while the other adult rides, without either of them queuing twice.

Which park is best for siblings of different ages?

MOTIONGATE Dubai in most cases. It spreads its height thresholds across more tiers than any other park in Dubai — around 90, 100, 105, 125 and 130 cm — so children at different heights each have a real roster. LEGOLAND serves the younger child well but runs thin for anyone over about 10. IMG serves the older child well and leaves a small sibling with very little. The rule that matters most: build the day around your shortest child, not your average one. With an extreme gap, a two-park pass and splitting the group between LEGOLAND and MOTIONGATE, a short walk apart, usually beats forcing one park to serve both.

Is LEGOLAND better than MOTIONGATE for younger children?

Above 105 cm, yes — LEGOLAND is gentler, better paced for under-8s, and the theming lands squarely with that age. Below 105 cm the answer flips, because LEGOLAND’s most useful rides cluster at that threshold and a shorter child hits a wall quickly. MOTIONGATE’s 90 cm tier gives a smaller child a few more options, though not dramatically more. One further consideration: LEGOLAND is largely outdoors, so between June and September the practical difference between the two parks matters less than the difference between either of them and staying indoors.

Is one day enough for each park?

For LEGOLAND and Real Madrid World, comfortably — and for a child under 105 cm at LEGOLAND, half a day is realistic. MOTIONGATE and IMG Worlds are both large enough to need a full day if your child clears most tiers, and IMG is often quoted at eight to nine hours for a complete visit. The practical limiter is rarely the park’s size, though. It is how long a young child lasts. If your youngest is under six, plan six hours and treat anything beyond that as a bonus.

Can children below the minimum height still go on the ride?

No, and this is not a rule park staff can bend. LEGOLAND’s guest services team has publicly confirmed, responding to a parent whose child missed a threshold by half a centimetre, that restrictions are set by the ride manufacturer and an independent inspection body and must be enforced strictly. One centimetre short is treated the same as ten. This is why measuring at home, before booking, matters more than any other single planning step.

Which Dubai theme park offers the best value for families?

There is no single answer, because value depends on your child’s height rather than the ticket price. For a child between 105 and 120 cm, LEGOLAND delivers a full day at a mid-range price. Between 120 and 140 cm, MOTIONGATE gives the highest number of usable rides. For a teenager, IMG Worlds combines complete ride access with indoor comfort, and its discounted online rate often makes it the cheapest of the four in practice. Below 105 cm, no park offers strong value — a half-day at LEGOLAND or skipping the theme park entirely are both reasonable calls. Calculate value as cost per ride your child can actually board.

Before You Buy Tickets: The Final Checklist

Printable checklist for measuring a child and completing the checks before buying Dubai theme park tickets
  • Measure at home — shoes off, heels flat against a wall, in centimetres
  • Subtract 2 cm as a planning margin
  • Find their wall — the first threshold above them from 80, 90, 95, 105, 120, 130, 140
  • With several children, use the shortest one’s number
  • Check that number against the Quick Reference Card and height chart
  • Count your ticket-holding adults — accompanied-tier rides and rider switch both need adults willing to board
  • Check the season — outdoor parks November to March, IMG in summer
  • Check the day — weekdays are quieter; LEGOLAND Water Park closes Wednesdays
  • Buy a single-park ticket first unless you are deliberately splitting the group
  • Confirm any make-or-break ride with Guest Services before booking, especially at Real Madrid World

If a ride your child is set on sits above their wall, tell them before the trip rather than at the gate. A child who knows in advance handles it far better than one who finds out in a queue.

Final Recommendation

Everything in this guide comes down to three steps.

Measure. Match. Book.

  • Measure your child at home, shoes off, minus a 2 cm margin.
  • Match that number to their wall — the first threshold they have not cleared.
  • Book the park with the most rides sitting below it.

The best Dubai theme park is not the one with the most rides. It is the one where your child qualifies for the highest number of attractions at their height — and is comfortable enough to actually get on them.

If you want the shortcut: LEGOLAND for preschoolers above 105 cm. MOTIONGATE for primary-school children and for any group with a wide height gap. IMG Worlds for older children who want real thrills, and for anyone visiting in summer. Real Madrid World only if football is a genuine interest.
